Meeting minutes and notes guide

Meeting note takers can create minutes that fit the meeting

Choose a format and fields based on your meeting's purpose and who will read the record. Use a Markdown template to capture decisions, owners and deadlines, ready to share after the meeting.

What do you need to record?

Decision
Add a comparison table to the next proposal
Owner and deadline
The document owner will prepare it before the next meeting
Pending
Confirm the comparison criteria at the next meeting

Meeting notes help you understand

Record observations and comments in your own words. Start with the agenda and key points.

Meeting minutes help you share

Record decisions and their context so absentees can follow them. Owners and deadlines make the next steps clear.

Add your meeting name and agenda to finish the record

Your purpose and readers carry over from above. Choose any additional requirements, then edit the generated text directly. Your edits will be included in the Markdown download.

What do you need to check after the meeting?

Rebuilding replaces the edited text on the right. Save any text you want to keep first.

Summary minutes for sharing

Record background and conclusions separately so absentees can follow the context.

Browser storage lets you resume in the same browser. Also download any text you need to keep in case browser data is cleared or you use a shared device.

What to check before sharing

The examples show how to write a record. Replace them with your actual meeting content before sharing so they cannot be mistaken for real decisions.

Separate decisions from open issues

If a proposal still under discussion appears under decisions, absentees may assume it is final. Record the decision, its reasoning and any issues left for the next meeting separately.

  • Do the recorded decisions match the attendees' understanding?
  • Does the reasoning explain how the decision was reached?
  • Does each open issue have a next step for checking it?

Name owners and set specific deadlines

“Handle this before the next meeting” does not identify an owner. Enter the task, the person's name, a specific deadline and the completion criteria.

  • Is the owner's name or department clear?
  • Have you replaced relative deadlines with specific dates?
  • Is it appropriate to share personal or unverified information with these readers?
How do I use a Markdown file?

A .md file is a text file you can open and edit in a text editor. Tools that support Markdown can display its headings and tables. For document tools without Markdown support, use “Copy text” to paste the content, then adjust the formatting.

Can I use this for formal meeting records?

You can create a template for deliberations, approval results, reviewers and finalization dates. It is not guaranteed to cover every requirement. Check it against any format required by applicable laws, contracts or internal rules before use.

How do I delete data saved in my browser?

Select “Delete saved data and reset” to remove this tool's stored data and restore the default inputs and text. Downloaded files and copied text remain, so delete those separately if needed.

Adds a pre-sharing checklist to the text in the editor.
