How to calculate your Life Path number

Your Life Path number comes from the month, day, and year of your birth. This calculator uses the component-reduction method and preserves 11, 22, and 33 whenever they appear during reduction.

  1. Reduce the birth month to one digit or a master number.
  2. Reduce the birth day to one digit or a master number.
  3. Add the digits of the birth year and reduce the result.
  4. Add those three results, then reduce once more.
Worked example: July 20, 1990 Month: 7 Day: 2 + 0 = 2 Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 Total: 7 + 2 + 1 = 10 → Life Path 1

Different numerology schools sometimes reduce dates differently. Showing the exact method makes your result reproducible.

The Expression number uses every letter in the full name. Soul Urge uses A, E, I, O, and U. Personality uses the remaining consonants. This calculator treats Y as a consonant so the rule stays consistent.

Frequently asked questions

Numerology calculator FAQ

Clear answers about the formula, master numbers, privacy, compatibility, and the limits of numerology.

How do I calculate my Life Path number?

Reduce the month, day, and year of your birth date separately, add those results, and reduce the total again. This calculator preserves 11, 22, and 33 as master numbers. The worked example above shows every step.

What does a numerology calculator by date of birth calculate?

Your birth date is used for the Life Path, Birthday, and Personal Year numbers. Your full birth name is used for the Expression, Soul Urge, and Personality numbers.

Which name should I use for name numerology?

For a traditional Pythagorean chart, use your complete name as recorded at birth. You can calculate a current or professional name separately and compare it with the birth-name result.

Are master numbers 11, 22, and 33 reduced?

This calculator keeps 11, 22, and 33 when they appear during reduction. Their practical root numbers are 2, 4, and 6 respectively, which is why they are often written as 11/2, 22/4, and 33/6.

Does Y count as a vowel in the Soul Urge number?

Rules for Y vary among numerology practitioners. This calculator consistently treats A, E, I, O, and U as vowels and Y as a consonant. The rule is stated here so you can reproduce the calculation.

How is numerology compatibility calculated?

The calculator derives each person’s Life Path number from their birth date and compares the traditional themes associated with those numbers. It returns strengths and discussion prompts—not a scientific match percentage or a prediction of relationship success.

What is a Personal Year number?

A Personal Year combines your reduced birth month and day with the digits of a chosen calendar year. Numerology practitioners use it as a theme for reflection. Change the target year in the calculator to compare different years.

Is numerology scientifically proven?

No. Numerology is a belief-based reflective tradition and has not been scientifically validated. Use the results for entertainment and self-reflection, not for medical, legal, financial, or relationship decisions.

Does this calculator store my name or birth date?

No. The calculations and downloadable summary are generated in your browser. This page does not send the name or birth date you enter to a server.

What is included in the free download?

After calculating, the download includes your inputs, six numbers, meanings, calculation notes, and any compatibility reading created during the session. If you have not calculated yet, it provides a printable blank worksheet with the formula and letter chart.
